Updated Planting on Awbrey Butte

Updated Planting on Awbrey Butte

The love of seasonal interest from April to October and colorful perennials along with bulbs inspired this landscape update on Awbrey Butte in Bend, Oregon.

The homeowners, who have an amazing eye for detail, were looking for a colorful perennial bed along their current rock wall and shade plantings around their existing water feature. They wanted to have seasonal color for all the months Bend can offer. The pre-requsites were that most, if not all, plants had to be low water usage or xeriscape plants, all the plants need to be deer resistant, they need to grow under Western Junipers, and some needed to tolerate deep shade.

The plant list for perrenials and bulbs that could be used for this project kept getting smaller and smaller, but yet , we were able to come up with an updated planting scheme that is perfect for their special back yard oasis almost all year round.

The new updated planting scheme around the pond. The plants had to be deer resistant, grow under Junipers, and tolerate shade. It’s hard to find plants that have to meet all these credentials!
