This West Hills Cottage Landscape is “darling” as my sweet grandmother used to say. When you enter the garden you step into into a relaxing atmosphere with curved pathways and abundant flowerbeds that appear to be perfectly natural. The homeowner, a wonderful person with amazing style, wanted a space with a seamless indoor/outdoor connection so she can unwind, watch the birds and listen to the gentle sound of water.
The homeowner and I started the design by removing an indoor wall and replacing it with French doors that open onto her new deck. Once on the deck, you overlook a babbling brook pond less water feature, an elegant white flower garden and a winding flagstone path that either leads to the front yard or to the future urban farm. If you choose the path to the front, the landscape’s welcoming mat, you will walk by an ornamental dry riverbed (we replaced her lawn with the dry riverbed for water saving or xeriscaping measures) with cottage style plantings that give you a sense of simplicity and charm. This “darling” yard is a gentle space to experience and will be cherished for many years to come.
